Unable to access print server with the alias name or CNAME

Accessing print server remotely with an alias name or the CNAME record throws the following error:

AD Object

Ensure that we do not have a computer object with the Alias name. For example:  If the server name is SERVER01 and its alias is SV1, make sure we do not have a computer object in the Active directory with name SV1.

 

Disable Strict Name Checking

Navigate to the following path in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters
Value name: DisableStrictNameChecking
Data type: REG_DWORD
Radix: Decimal
Value: 1

Powershell command to create the registry:

New-ItemProperty HKLM:\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters -Name "DisableStrictNameChecking" -value "1" -PropertyType dword

Disable Loopback Checking

Navigate to the following path in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa

Create the following value:
Value NameDisableLoopbackCheck
Data Type: REG_DWORD
Radix: Decimal
Value: 1

PowerShell command to create the registry:

New-ItemProperty HKLM:\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa -Name "DisableLoopbackCheck" -value "1" -PropertyType dword

Back Connection Host Names

Navigate to the following registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\MSV1_0

Create the following value:
Value NameBackConnectionHostNames
Data Type: Multi-String
Value: CNAME or DNS Alias of the server

PowerShell command to create the registry:

New-ItemProperty HKLM:\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\MSV1_0 -Name “BackConnectionHostNames” -PropertyType multistring -Value “winplat.net”,”svr01.winplat.net”

Note: Ensure you change the value of -Value parameter in the above powershell command.


DNSOnWire

Navigate to the following registrykey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print

Create the following value:
Value NameDnsOnWire 
Data Type: REG_DWORD
Radix: Decimal
Value: 1
